Your Pet And New Years Eve

With the New Year rapidly approaching that also means that your dog is likely to be within hearing range of a ‘New Years’ party or two, so I would like to take this time to remind you that often pets can become rather stressed at this time of year and there would be nothing worse than coming home from a celebration to find your pet missing.

Many dogs show signs of panic when they hear the sound of fireworks (or thunder) some will run around as if trying to get away, some will start panting rapidly, others still may start trembling.

If you’re going to be home with your dog on New Years Eve if possible bring them inside where the noise may be lessened and you can help keep them calm. If you’re going out and leaving your dog home please try to ensure they are either locked inside or in a well enclosed area outside, dogs will often do almost anything to try and escape if they’re scared by a cracker going off.

If you know that your dog is going to become extremely stressed, please try to think of your pet now and visit your vet, they may be able to recommend a mild sedative or some other way to keep your dog calm during the festivities.

I’d urge you to remind family and friends of this as well if they have pets of their own.
