Smoking: Why You Should Quit
December 25th, 2007 | by admin |No matter how many times a smoker gets told how harmful it is, it seems that until they are good and ready to quit they will keep on smoking. For the most part smokers know the how bad it is for them and heath reasons aside they also know they could save themselves a fortune if they gave it up. The problem is that it really is a lot easier said than done, willpower alone will often not do the job (though there are those lucky few who can decide one day to give it up and never touch a cigarette again, for others it requires a lot more help).
Smokers generally understand what damage it can do to their body, but it often takes repeated attempts to truly realise the benefits of quitting, some of which are mentioned below:
Cancers of the mouth and throat etc. are halved 5 years after quitting.
The risk of a low birth weight baby returns to normal if a mother quits before pregnancy or during the first trimester.
Your bank balance will improve before your very eyes
You will truly feel and look better and healthier once you’ve given up.
Those are just some of the more common reasons to quite smoking and for those that are ready and can do it on willpower alone I congratulate you. But for those that need that little extra help, it is available:
Your family doctor might be one place to start for any advice and suggestions.
Nicotine Patches have proven very successful for some
Places like Quitline where you can phone and speak to operators both before, during and after you attempt or finally quit smoking.
Hypnosis has also proven to be quite successful for many people (often the need to smoke is often more force of habit rather than an actual physical craving - hypnosis helps break the habit)
There are also many other books and audio programs etc to help you stop smoking
