Quick Way To Clean A Combustion Fire

I love my combustion fire.

To me there is nothing that will warm me up quicker on a cold winter night than standing in front of my fire and feeling the warmth my combustion heater generates.

Of course as much as I love it, it has one major problem: cleaning it.

Scooping the ash and coals out isn't the major problem (once you remember to use a steel bucket and shovel rather than a plastic one) it's keeping the glass clean and clear that causes me the most problem. Afterall what's the point of being able to gaze into the mesmerising dance of the flames if you can't see through the glass?

I discovered that keeping the glass clean is a lot easier than I ever imagine. Forget all those cleaners and scrubs you've tried before one of the best (and cheapest) ways to clean the glass in your combustion fire is to simply use newspaper.

Before you empty out the ash, grab a couple of pieces of newspaper, scrunch them up and wet them, then give the wet paper a quick swipe through the ash.

Once the ash is stuck to the wet paper, simply use that to scrub your glass, you'll be amazed at how quickly the built up grime will come off.

It may take a bit of scrubbing the first couple of times you try it but once you get in the habit and you're glass is initially clean it won't take a lot of work at all.

Best of all, once you're done you can use the paper to start your fire. No messy chemicals etc to be disposed of.
